A writing position may be available with a publishing company, editorial department, media agency, online marketing firm or an ITES company. A writing professional is responsible for writing articles, pamphlets, books or booklets for the company. Specific duties of a writing professional include understanding the client requirements, studying the area on which the matter has to be produced, writing drafts on the subject, editing and proofreading drafts, attending training sessions, staying abreast with grammatical and other factors affecting the work, meeting deadlines, coordinating with people from various departments, and executing other tasks assigned by the writing manager. A writing professional typically reports to a writing manager.
A writing professional should have an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area. Excellent grammar and writing skills are necessary. Prior experience in writing may be advantageous. Strong proficiency with use of Microsoft Word is required.
