Writing jobs are numerous. There are about 300,000 writers, authors, and editors. The majority of these workers are self employed. These writers, editors, and authors work in directory publishers, book, newspapers, the internet, magazines, publishing, scientific, professional, and technical services. Other writers and editors work in organizations such as social and professional, films and movie industries and television. Some editors and writers work in internet publication where they write web content, articles, and blogs. Writers and editors made it big in the media industry where they write dialogues, stories, and writers travel constantly for research or doing interviews in person.

Editors, writers, and authors represent writing jobs. They create a huge variety of printed or written materials in many ways. They can write using multimedia formats that can be viewed on the screen, read, and listened to. They write materials for online publishing companies, books, magazines, trade journals, advertisements, blogs, newsletters, and articles. They write on a wide variety of topics including jobs and careers, health, medicines, the latest gadgets, movie reviews, food, travel, medical conditions, and many other countless articles. They are also classified as fiction and nonfiction writers. Reporters, correspondents, and news analysts gather current events and news, while the technical writers help write easy to read manuals and other technical information.

Other writing jobs include song writers, scriptwriters, and screenwriters. They produce material for movies, radio content, televisions, and plays. Copy writers produce publications for advertisement, publication, and other materials for services or goods promotions. They work with their clients and discuss slogans and themes relevant to their goods or services they provide. These writers start with extensive research work in the internet, personal observations, the library, and interviews. Staff writers who work for a newspaper or magazine publication write articles directed by the editors. The editors may summarize, make revisions or omissions to suit the company’s needs.



There is a lot of writing jobs around that are increasing such as freelance writers who are self employed. They write web contents like articles and sell them to internet publications and websites. They may also have contracts with website owners or other organizations like online magazine, advertising and online e-marketing companies and services. Some writers are commissioned by large sponsors to write a novel or biography of a famous person or personality or a script for many media entities. Other writers are contributors in newspapers and magazines. Freelance writers often have a short term contract, while other have up to 5 to 6 years of writing contract.

Editors on the other hand, may rewrite, review, change, or rephrase the work of writers. Some editors may write as well. Editors have a wide variety of responsibilities according to the company’s needs and size. They edit books, articles, and oversee production of various publications. They also review manuscripts makes decisions on what article or books to buy. Editors are in demand for e books, online publishing, book publishers, newspapers, and a side variety of magazines including online types. Many editors started as writers. Experience and excellence in written publications allows them to move from assistant or associate editor to higher editing positions such as chief editor.

Writers are expected to have a bachelor’s degree. Most writing jobs require a degree in journalism and courses in liberal arts. An ample computer literacy is also important and Internet savvy applicants have great advantages. A master’s degree in journalism, communication, and English is required for higher editor positions, writer, or author. Writers must be clear, concise and enjoys their job. Technical writers’ requirements are a bachelors degree or higher especially in physics, biology, life sciences, communications, information technology, and engineering.

The annual average salary for authors and writers employment is $55,000 to $65,000. Some writer’s salary ranges from $70,000 to $105,000 per year. Advertising and other related services writer salary is $45,000. Editors start from $49,000 up to $70,000 or as high as $96,000. Freelance writers and editors work for contract or project basis salaries.
