Description of specific Duties in a typical workday for this position:
Translating complex engineering terminology and requirements into consumable artifacts using Plain Writing within established templates
Developing and enhancing artifacts to continuously improve written artifacts
Editing, revising, organizing, and cataloging documentation using version control and configuration management techniques
Development and maintenance of artifacts, such as: System Security Plan, Software Configuration Management Plan, System Contingency Plan, Operations Manuals, Rules of Behavior, Definitions, and Acronyms
Complying with and advancing NIST, Risk Management, FISMA, SDLC, OMB, Quality, and other government and industry standards, templates, policies, and procedures through written documentation and consultation with engineering team.
Responsible for the development, preparation, completeness, accuracy, and presentation of all documentation required for passing through the various risk management stage gates of the life cycle to director-level program and security officers
Eliciting relevant technical and process information from software development architects, engineers, analysts, and project managers within a strict SDLC timeline
Monitoring and understanding the software development life cycle, planning out technical writing activities, coordinating meetings with relevant stakeholders, and executing the plan independently (i.e., without direct supervision)
Practical architectural, development, or engineering experience in web services, such as .Net, Java, and/or PHP
5 years of Technical Writing experience within an SDLC environment producing artifacts as described above
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, information technology, or related field (or 10 years of experience)
2 years writing experience following security, NIST, and risk management framework standards
Experience in certification and accreditation documentation and authority to operate requirements
Experience in version control and configuration management
Thorough understanding of terminology, usage, operating characteristics of hardware, software and operating components of information systems as well as governmental policies and industry standards
Strong verbal communications and interpersonal skills across technical and non-technical stake holders at different levels
Ability to extract, disseminate, and translate information from various stakeholders across all levels into clear documentation
Highly organized and able to work effectively within strict schedules
Ability to work effectively as part of a distributed team
Initiative and resiliency in continuously reviewing, documenting, revising, and gathering feedback on living documents
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Two independently authored writing samples comparable to the artifacts described above are required
