The Washington Times is looking to add an experienced and energetic managing editor to direct and supervise the day-to-day operations of the newsroom. This includes providing leadership and vision, directing and generating news content, overseeing the production of print publications, and managing administrative and operational activities.
Responsibilities include supervising and directing the newsroom’s editing, reporting and design teams; driving reporting coverage that distinguishes The Washington Times from its competitors; and serving as the primary assignment supervisor for coverage of politics, foreign affairs, nation, metro, sports, and features/culture. The managing editor is also the immediate supervisor of newsroom personnel including, but not limited to, staffing, hiring, mentoring, scheduling, vacations, promotions, pay, etc. This position requires strong leadership and organizational skills as well as being adept at problem solving.
The managing editor provides support to the executive editor, and works to ensure the newsroom produces news content that increases reader engagement, fulfills corporate strategy and can be monetized. In cases where the executive editor is unable to assume key duties, the managing editor is authorized to act in the executive editor’s stead.
(10) years of news reporting and editing experience on politics and related issues. Must also have five (5) years experience in a senior management role that includes administrative responsibilities and supervising personnel.
