Experis is partnered with a federal integrator in their search for a Technical Writer who has experience in explaining highly technical data and information supporting information security for a Center of Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) program located in Baltimore, MD.
Support the preparation, review, revision, and maintenance of technical documents including Handbooks, system instructions, security policies, Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) and additional documents as required
Reviewing and updating security policies to ensure written policies correctly reflect CMS security policy updates
Maintaining on a quarterly basis Plans of Action & Milestone (POA&M) Directive Handbook
Using installed Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, SharePoint and other tools for documentation
Providing technical writing support for documents such as configuration instructions, specifications, hardware and software requirements, implementation plans, version description, interface requirements/guide, administrative support guide, troubleshooting guides, user/analyst guide and physical and logical layer diagrams as necessary
Associates' degree or 2-year technical school or computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required, or equivalent (4 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education)
Experience researching highly technical subject matter, organize information from multiples sources, and expressing technical information in written formats
Experience applying concepts for technical writing based on engineering drawings, technical information from engineering documentation
Experience producing technical documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation utilized by the end-user community
Proficient in MS Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Project and Visio
Experience working and interacting with technical stakeholders
Ability to work with precision and accuracy in a fast-paced environment
Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet established deadlines
Excellent written and oral communication skills
The main function of a technical writer is to write technical materials, such as equipment materials, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions. A typical technical writer is responsible for organizing, editing and maintaining technical records and files.
Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology.
Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
Edit, standardize or make changes to material prepared by other writers or establishment personnel.
Confer with client to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publication.
Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
Basic mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods.
Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
