UW Medicine Strategic Marketing & Communications is looking for a writer/storyteller to heighten and expand UW Medicine brand awareness through a variety of communication vehicles, including a new digital publication, Right as Rain by UW Medicine.
The successful candidate will have the ability to think both strategically and creatively and work within teams to produce copy for the web, marketing, video, internal communications, patient communications and media relations. The Writer will acquire knowledge of UW Medicine’s programs and accomplishments by interviewing faculty, leadership, and subject matter experts. Brand journalism/content marketing and consumer health writing experience is highly desirable.
• Create emotionally powerful copy/stories that engage consumers and heighten the awareness of UW Medicine, its entities and its mission to improve the health of the public through clinical care, teaching and research.
• Write, produce and coordinate engaging social media posts for UW Medicine channels.
• Work within a creative team to set strategies and develop marketing copy for print and digital that reflects the UW Medicine brand.
• Interview employees, leadership and others to create copy for the internal story-telling website.
• Complete other writing assignments including press releases, opinion pieces, scripts, talking points and web copy, as assigned.
• Promote and represent UW Medicine at a limited number of community events.
Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Journalism or equivalent, with two to three years of practical experience. Must have a proven ability to write copy for marketing and/or promotional, news writing and/or corporate communications, as well as developing persuasive copy for consumers. Must have exceptional interpersonnel, organizational, oral communication and writing skills. Must be familiar with the Associated Press Stylebook. Must be a creative storyteller, have an inquisitive mind and adept at using all storytelling platforms, including social media. Must be able to take initiative and use independent judgment.
Five years of experience. Photography, video and social media skills are highly desirable. Experience working in a complex organization. Healthcare experience is helpful but not necessary.
