The Director of Test Engineering will be responsible for validating the effect of future broadcast changes on Satellite and IP receivers, performing in vehicle testing on headunits, SXM feature compliance and SXM feature interaction with other infotainment system features, RF performance, System Integration and maintenance of the Head Unit Test Facility. Maintenance would include network connectivity to our uplink facility, processing and encrypting of RF test files, processing incoming product, and overall coordination of inventory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilize existing tools to complete validation and/or diagnostic routines.
Aid in the design/development and be responsible for the implementation of an on-line monitoring tool/system.
Download proposed broadcast change files for processing multiple signal generation platforms, UDS Uplinks, Signal Generators, for testing and distribution throughout SXM and its partners.
Create plans for each proposed broadcast change and comprehensive automated software test scripts to include cases to exercise each user interface feature and function, each entry condition, and each exit condition.
Lead the team in performing formal verification and validation of the user interface software on each receiver both prior and while broadcast changes are performed.
Assist in developing and executing test tools related to data services as they relate to new partner programs on both satellite band and Internet Protocol (IP) receivers.
Collect experimental data and analyze it.
Prepare reports for all activities.
1-2 direct reports and up to 10-15 cross functional engineers.
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering with background in electronics, electrical engineering technology, or equivalent, relevant experience.
Experience in programming in at least one of the following languages:
Familiarity with Aautomotive testing and automotive applications including GPS systems, telematics systems, navigation systems, engine controllers, and CAN bus emulators.
Background in military electronics preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in electronics required.
10-15 years of experience in testing infotainment systems.
Requirements and General Skills:
Experience in radio head units, GPS, telematics, navigation system, mobile telephony, and/or satellite receivers.
Must have keen diagnostic and analytic capability.
Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to coordinate multi organizational structures such as OEM applications engineering, Q/A, and test validation sites.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Ability to pay attention to details and be organized.
Ability to project professionalism over the phone and in person.
Commitment to internal client and customer service principles.
Willingness to take initiative and to follow through on projects.
Spelling, grammar, proofreading and editing skills.
Excellent technical writing skills.
Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and work under shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
Must be able to use digital multimeter, oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer.
Must have some knowledge of computer programming.
Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
Working with UART devices, REST Services, and Binary Protocols.
Other Software technologies (USB, TCP/IP).
PC hardware architecture, including USB etc.
