Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Analytics & Curation, Clinical Genomics, the incumbent will critically evaluate and interpret cancer genomic variants for curation into the JAX Clinical Knowledgebase (JAX-CKB). The variant interpretation scientist will assimilate and integrate data from the scientific literature related to pathogenicity and predictive efficacy evidence in a format compatible with clinical reporting. The content curator will assist in quality assurance and quality control of all data within JAX-CKB.
Working with internal resources, external databases, and the scientific literature, the Variant Interpretation Scientist will curate and interpret cancer genomic variants and therapeutic knowledge information through standard operating procedures. (60%)
The Variant Interpretation Scientist will update clinical trial information and analyze efficacy evidence data on targeted therapies. (20%)
Will insure data integrity of the JAX Clinical Knowledgebase by implementing and executing quality assurance and quality control protocols and related QC projects. (10%)
The Variant Interpretation Scientist will work with the computational sciences group to integrate and test new curation tools. (10%)
D. in genetics, genomics, cellular biology, molecular biology or an equivalent is required with zero to one year related experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of targeted therapies, next-generation sequencing technology, genomics, clinical informatics, molecular diagnostics, pharmacology, and cancer biology.
Previous experience as a technical writer and/or curator is preferred.
Ability to quickly assess, interpret, integrate, and reassemble relevant medical and scientific literature.
Working knowledge of database/curation systems, including biomedical ontologies, and the ability to critically evaluate and use new systems is required.
Strong attention to detail, multi-tasking, and organizational skills are required.
Ability to function as part of a matrixed organization and work as a team player required.
