A large utility services company is seeking an experienced Technical Writer for a 12 months contract assignment in uptown Charlotte.
Responsible for the writing and documentation of standard operating processes (SOP) for applicable Grid Solutions projects. SOPs will represent key information critical to the delivery of processes that are to be implemented and in alignment with the project deliverables. This position will work with subject matter experts to develop and document procedure narratives to align business process maps, document related business requirements, and document other process workshop outputs as needed. The position works closely with business process designer, change management, and training resources. Writes and updates material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance.
Typical Functions:
Acquires assignments from supervisor.
Studies production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail.
Interviews production and engineering personnel and reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
Reviews manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service.
Studies blueprints, flowcharts, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mock ups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.
Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
Reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
May maintain records and files of work and revisions.
May select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material. May assist in laying out material for publication.
May arrange for typing, duplication, and distribution of material.
May write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases.
Typical Allocation of Duties & Responsibilities:
50% - Develop deliverables including process business requirements, RACI roles and process activities, documentation of risks, assumptions, issues, action items, and decisions related to the process. Support the development of identified level 4 task detail, as needed, and ensure the appropriate attachment and/or reference links are included in the Standard Operating Process
20% - Participate in process development workshops to support Business Process Designers
15% - Request and maintain tracking of Corporate Documents Control Numbers required for publication of Standard Operating Process
15% - Support the publication of Standard Operating Process by completing the Document Approval Form and route to identified owners for recommended and final approvals prior to publication. Support of the publication effort includes appropriate tracking and status reporting of published Standard Operating Process.
Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree plus equivalent work experience
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong writing skills.
Ability to work well in a team environment
Proficient in use of Microsoft Products.

College Degree (4 year)
