Job Title Senior Editor, The Magnolia Journal
I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
The Senior Editor carries through the vision established by Joanna Gaines, the Editor, and the senior Magnolia creative team for each issue of the magazine. Provide process and schedule leadership to the other two Meredith team members located on site at Magnolia and in coordination with the Production Editor in Des Moines.
Fulfills the vision established for each magazine issue while working closely and taking direction from Magnolia creative leadership. Serves as primary point of contact for the Editor and the creative team to communicate process, edits, needs, and overall vision.
Executes issues from story concept and scouting to writing, editing, photography, issue production and budgeting.
Writes and edits to the Magnolia voice
Ensures each issue is completed on time and on budget to Magnolia brand standards
Works with Magnolia creative leadership to establish and manage a 12 month, forward-looking editorial calendar
Primary editorial contact for advertising, circulation, production and other Meredith corporate partners
III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.Education:Four-year degree in journalism, communications, English or related field.
Experience:Minimum 5 years editorial experience, preferably in national consumer-focused lifestyle magazines with home, garden, and/or food focus. Demonstrable writing, editing, and project-management skills.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to write and edit to the Magnolia voice
Proven ability to manage process and a small staff
Strong writer and story editor. Basic knowledge of home design and experience with other lifestyle content. Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and computer software for common business applications (Word, Excel, Digital Asset Management System and Macintosh experience a plus).
Experience in a creative, fast-paced, multitasking environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to sort through complex problems and respond to questions in a concise and courteous manner; ability to prioritize conflicting deadlines and work under pressure.
Ability to communicate and respond to clear verbal and written ideas.
Must be professional in working with all levels of personnel and management.
