The primary purpose of this position is to perform comprehensive edit and prepare electronic or computer-based layouts for the Barnes Center Enlisted Education Center (AFCDA) course materials, both printed and multimedia. These distance learning courses are mandatory courses for all United States Air Force airman promotions and for the Weighted Airmen promotion system. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities * Edits (AFCDA) publications, including technical and scientific volumes, and multimedia courseware ( e.g., computer based instruction) for completeness, clarity/appropriateness. * Performs the full array of desktop publishing procedures to produce the electronic copy of the course materials, supplementary material, and other publications. * Advises Subject Matter Expert, Instruction Systems Specialist and others of Air Force, Air University, and AFCDA regarding the application of publications and guidance. * Accesses the database to verify accuracy of course and volume identifications. Initiates any necessary corrective action. Archives the final electronic course materials to the database so they can be retrieved by other editors or printing plant * Carries out and assumes responsibilities for special projects (including training newly hired editors) as assigned by theDirector, Education and Training Curriculum. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the GS-06 grade/level position or equivalent in the federal service. OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as [insert applicable field(s) of study]. NOTE: You must submit a copy of official transcripts. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Comprehensive knowledge of grammar, writing, editing, and desktop publishing in order to edit and publish all course elements. Extensive knowledge of technical phases of publication work, including typography, layout, and assessment or development of appropriate artwork. 2. Knowledge of readily available sources of information (AF, publications, instructions, AU Style Guide, etc.) necessary to rewrite course elements. Knowledge of various types of computer software used in desktop publishing and development of interactive courseware. 3. Skills in oral and written communications. Ability to determine appropriate layout for publications. 4. Ability to gather information from different sources for publication of course elements. 5. Must possess an understanding of a wide range of technical and nontechnical subject matter in order to interpret, verify, and correct courseware text. 6. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize work, and meet deadlines. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education IF USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY: You MUST provide transcripts to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
