Medical Assistant (Healthcare / Medical)

Job Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant will be responsible for checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms; sending/receiving patient medical records and obtaining lab/ex-ray reports; setting up instruments and equipment according to hospital protocols and cleaning exam rooms and instruments between patients visits. Depending on state law, you would also be checking patient vital signs and participate in drug administration.

Additional responsibilities include:

Fulfills patient care responsibilities:

collecting patient history; performing screening per provider guidelines; assisting providers/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls, and providing pertinent information

Fulfills clerical responsibilities:

completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and updating charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately

Fulfills environmental responsibilities:

maintaining infection control; keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; and restocking exam/procedure rooms

Fulfills the organizations’ responsibilities:

respecting and promoting patient’s rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and or staff with immediate supervisor

Fulfills clinical Medical Assisting responsibilities:

providing bio hazard waste disposal and monitoring; therapeutic modalities; instructing patients with assistive devices, body mechanics and home care; laboratory procedures including Occupations Safety and Health Administrations (OSHA) guidelines

Job Requirements

The Medical Assistant (MA) will have a High School diploma or GED; (MA) diploma from an accredited vocational institution or a community college program. You will have appropriate certificate indicating passing grade from specific specialty, if working in specialty departments; e.g. pediatrics. Please apply today!

Additional requirements include:

Minimum one year of recent experience working in a healthcare facility as a (MA) and/ or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office

Experience with Electrocardiogram (EKG), taking vital signs, venipuncture, capillary and giving injections

Strong attention to detail, problem-solving and organizational skills

Ability to maintain quality and quantity of work

Good attendance and punctuality; flexibility and willingness to take initiative

Other requirements:

Current documentation of a national certification for the registered (MA) through the American Medical Technologist (AMT) or for the certified assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

Must possess a current CPR certification and current health records with the appropriate immunization to work in the healthcare field (Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis)
