SUMMARY: The Executive Editor acquires, edits and manages titles, helps achieve profits on a title-by-title and imprint basis, and helps ensure projects are within budget and align with Hachette Book’s vision. The position reports to the Publisher.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Acquire projects from a variety of sources• Develop and maintain productive relationships with authors and agents• Assist publisher in shaping editorial direction of imprint• Work with an entrepreneurial spirit, pursuing ideas for book projects, as well as innovative ways to publish• Assist in developing marketing plans for acquired titles, in collaboration with Associate Publisher and other HBG staff• Assist in achieving divisional and imprint profit goals • Represent division at tradeshows and industry events EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:• Minimum of 8-10 years of publishing experience including acquiring and editing• Exceptional knowledge of book publishing processes and functions• Excellent contacts in the book publishing industry• Proven ability to identify, cultivate and publish new authors and build on success of current authors; Ability to identify best-seller potential• Self motivated, hands on, creative individual with exceptional oral, written, presentation, and negotiation skills• Attention to details in a deadline-driven environment with the ability to multi-task and prioritize• Strong initiative and judgment. Results-oriented and ability to work well independently as well as in collaborative or team environments• Ability to identify new talent utilizing knowledge and contacts in the industry
