AIR is currently seeking a Senior Survey Researcher Washington, D.C. office. The Senior Survey Researcher will help support existing large-scale survey projects focused on education, including post-secondary education. The candidate must have content expertise and have a record of leading survey research projects related to post-secondary education. The candidate will also support business development at AIR.

This position is located in Washington, DC office within AIRs Survey and Data Sciences (SDS) group, which supports the design, collection, analysis, and dissemination of statistics that are objective, accurate, and timely.


- Providing technical leadership of survey research and data collection projects including developing survey research designs and their implementation, overseeing and conducting the development and execution of research and analysis plans, providing strategic thinking, and identifying creative solutions to address client needs.

- Managing projects and staff including leading projects, interacting with clients, and supervising and supporting project team members.

- Communicating the results and impact of AIRs work via participation in professional meetings, advisory panels, or publishing research results in peer-reviewed publications.

- Engaging in business development activities including identifying opportunities and strategic partnerships, cultivating relationships with existing and potential new clients, writing proposals, and developing budgets.


- Ph.D. with 3-5 years related experience or M.A., M.S., or equivalent degree with 6-10 years related experience in survey research or methodology, social science (e.g., education, psychology, sociology), evaluation research, survey design.

- Experience designing and managing large-scale surveys preferred. Experience with and advanced knowledge of survey methodology and survey operations, such as questionnaire design, cognitive interviews, survey administration, and data analysis preferred.

- 5 years technical expertise in quantitative research, with experience using analytic software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, SAS, or similar software applications).

- 5 years technical writing experience and proficiency in communicating with various audiences (e.g., researchers, and policymakers).

- 5 years of demonstrated leadership and management skills required including the ability to lead projects and proposals, work in a team environment, provide day-to-day management of complex projects and tasks, and direct and mentor staff members.

- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills
