Job Description:

The Office of Sponsored Programs at SUNY Oneonta seeks a Senior Grant Writer

to assist in the University's efforts to promote and increase external research and program funding. The Senior Grant Writer will actively search for and help to secure external funding to support faculty research and institutional initiatives. In this position, you will support faculty in the development, packaging and submission of grant proposals to external funding agencies. This position reports to the Director of Sponsored Programs in the Division of Finance and Administration and serves as a key member of the newly formed University Grants Team, a cross-divisional, collaborative team comprised of members and leadership from Academic Affairs, Finance and Administration, and University Advancement.

The Senior Grant Writer is a key member of the Office of Sponsored Programs. Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

Researching, identifying, and distributing potential funding opportunities to faculty, staff and administration to support institutional priorities.

Initiating regular communication and raising awareness about external funding opportunities

Assisting faculty, staff, and administration in all aspects of development and packaging of grant proposals to external funding agencies. Support activities include: Interpreting and ensuring compliance with RFP/RFA requirements and guidelines

Coordinating proposal development activities for small projects and complex, multidisciplinary proposals

Drafting, editing, and formatting proposal documents such as narratives, budgets, letters of support, biographical sketches, and other required documents

Facilitating the timely submission of competitive proposals through the Research Foundation for SUNY on behalf of SUNY Oneonta

Serving as a member of the University Grants Team, partnering closely with the Associate Director for Scholarly Activities and the Manager of Foundation and Corporate Programs to support the University's grant seeking efforts and ensuring external grants are submitted through the appropriate entity

Working with the University Grants Team and other stakeholders across the university to evaluate, formulate, and implement policies and procedures that promote research across the university and support implementation of sponsored activity

Maintaining a current understanding of funding sponsors, their guidelines, and their priorities

Maintaining a record of all applications submitted and awarded

This is primarily an on-site position with the option to work remotely one day per week.

Salary:

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree

A minimum of two years of experience in grant writing, with an emphasis on proposals to federal agencies

Excellent communication and critical thinking skills

Excellent writing and editing skills, as evidenced by samples of previous work

Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment

Familiarity with federal compliance regulations for grant-funded projects, budget preparation, bio-sketches, data management plans, and other supplemental documents is essential

Experience utilizing online grant submission portals, including grants.gov and research.gov

Experience working with Microsoft Suite of applications (including Word, Teams, and Excel) and Adobe applications

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree

Experience working with SUNY and /or The Research Foundation for SUNY

Three years or more of experience in grant writing for an institution of higher education

Experience interpreting and applying policies from multiple levels of authority (federal, state, and institutional)

Demonstrated success securing both small and large external funding awards

Experience working with and serving diverse populations
